Treasure Care Tips

LunaPiena Jewellery pieces are all hand crafted from 925 Sterling Silver. Therefore, our pieces are made up of 92.5% silver and 7.5% is copper, given that pure silver is too soft, and we need to add a little copper in order to make it harder and be able to shape it. Sterling Silver is a precious metal that you can wear in your daily life without damaging it, thus our jewellery does not rust nor does it stain the skin like most non-precious metals do. It is our vision that our pieces are forever pieces which is why we choose to work with 925 Sterling Silver as apposed to other metals which do not offer the same longevity. Finally, at LunaPiena Jewellery we absolutely love, respect and honour the healing power of precious and semi-precious gemstones and so we also work with these to complete the look of certain designs. All our crystals are natural as such each piece is unique to the natural colours, hues, grooves and indents of the crystal making each piece all the more precious.

Each design is available in Silver and Gold, that is, each design is made using 925 Sterling Silver and then plated in silver or 18kt gold vermeil that is 2 microns in order to create the desired aesthetic. As such, different care tips apply.

Care Tips for your Silver Jewels;

  • We advice all LunaPiena Jewellery should be stored individually, preferably in the provided LunaPiena Jewellery gift box or pouch in order to avoid abrasion caused by items rubbing against each other.
  • Don’t be scared to wear your pieces everyday, Sterling Silver is renowned for its longevity and is supposed to be worn and enjoyed.
  • Avoid contact with access sweat, perfumes or creams, and from corrosive agents such as bleach, detergents, dishwashers, disinfectants. However don’t panic if your jewels do come into contact with such elements all you need to do is wash them off with a little warm water and soap.
  • When jewellery is exposed to some products, it can become dark. Or sometimes it is just the ph of our skin which makes the jewellery loose its shine or perhaps being exposed to the natural elements over a long period of time. Don’t worry, you can easily restore the piece to its original state by cleaning the it.

How to clean your Sterling Silver Jewellery

We recommend the following method;

Mix two parts baking soda to one part water to make a paste, then gently rub the mixture onto the jewellery. Let the paste dry completely to remove the tarnish. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth or microfiber towel.

However, be cautious when using this method to clean jewels that have gemstones, as baking soda could damage the natural stone and so be sure to avoid contact of this cleaning agent with the stone.

Care Tips for your Gold Jewels

As mentioned above, our gold jewels are made using 925 Sterling silver and 18KT gold vermeil of 2 Microns. Thus they are NOT solid gold and as such will loose their gold plating over time depending on how you are store and care for them. We recommend the following tips, to ensure your jewels maintain their best condition;

  • We advice all LunaPiena Jewellery should be stored individually, preferably in the provided LunaPiena Jewellery gift box or pouch in order to avoid abrasion caused by items rubbing against each other.
  • Avoid exercising with it and don’t carry it in activities where there is a risk of rubbing or scratching. Sweat and rubbing can speed up the wear of the gold layer. For instance, if you are going for a run or to the gym, it is better to take your jewellery off.
  • Avoid direct contact with perfumes, creams, soaps, cleaning products, chlorine, seawater etc. The plating will last much longer if you take it off when washing your hands, you enter the shower or put on your cream.
  • Keep jewels away from direct sun light as over exposure to the sun will cause the jewels to loose their golden sheen.

 How to clean your Gold Jewellery.

To be honest, should you follow the above care tips, your gold jewels will not require cleaning, since the plating is prone to wear we actually recommend not exposing your gold jewels to water and soaps etc.

 We hope the above tips will be helpful to you maintaining the best quality to your jewels, but mostly we hope that enjoy wearing your treasure because we have created the to be worn and loved by you.
